| My name is Leanne Varney, and I'm a grade 10 student from Peter Skene Ogden in British Columbia. I really love sports, like archery and basketball as well as music and being outdoors. Science has always been an interest of mine, and as I get older it continues to remain as one of my passions. Although my project focuses on biology, some of my favourite aspects of science are chemistry and forensics, in fact I hope to become a forensic specialist one day! This is my second year participating in a science fair competition. My project, was inspired by a family member who lives on the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. He and his friends don't always have a clean source of drinking water. After doing some research, I realized that there are several people in the developed world who still lack drinkable water, even with today's technology! In moving forward with my project, I hope to one day manufacture and mass produce my innovation, to ensure a safe, accessible source of water for all. Canada Wide Science Fair is a huge opportunity for me, and I am so proud to be selected to participate. |

The UDrink Project

With my innovation, the public would have an accessible, safe source of drinking water, for free. Rainwater is filtered through reverse osmosis, solar disinfection and chlorination to ensure no bacteria is remaining. Businesses would have an opportunity to advertise on the surrounding pole to help support maintenance and manufacturing costs. |
