Biography
My name is Aaron Schoepp. I am in grade 8 at Langley Christian School in British Columbia. In school I enjoy science, math, band, and P.E. I enjoy playing the piano, reading, playing football, basketball, volleyball, and badminton with my friends. I love watching hockey and football. I deliver papers and I really enjoy umpiring girls’ softball. Every week I attend church and most weeks I go to the youth group at my church. I have one sister and three brothers and in 2009 one of my brothers went to the CWSF in Manitoba. Hearing what a great time my brother had, I set the goal of attending CWSF myself. I came up with my project when my mom told me that I could not study with music playing because it would distract me. I wanted to see if she was right, so I designed a memory test so that I could find out. Both my mom and I were surprised by the results of my study. I have enjoyed sharing these results with other students, teachers, and science fair judges.

Abstract:This study looks at whether listening to music with lyrics while studying impairs a student’s ability to remember what s/he has studied. Students were given two similar memory tests. They studied for one test without music and for the other test with music. Each subject’s usual study habit was compared to the test on which s/he scored best to see if there was a correlation.
