Dayna - My name is Dayna Rachkowski, and my partner and I both attend Marymount Academy. I am 14 years old, and my interests include, horses, sports, and music. I participate in 10 school extra curricular activities, as well as being chosen to be in the reach ahead program for english. My partner and I are interested in continuing to investigate aquaponics, to see if it affects a fish's life span, as well as identifying a plant to fish ratio for the system. To other students who think they may want to do a project, I say go for it! Knowledge and science can be so fascinating, so pick something you're interested in and learn! Do a project with a friend so you can have tons of fun while do something educational, you never know what you can discover! | Hailey - My name is Hailey Mackenzie, I am 14 years old at Marymount Academy in Sudbury Ontario. For my project my partner and I built an aquoponics system ( a system that combines aquacultre and hyroponics, by harvesting fish whilst using their nutrients to grow plants.) and compared it to traditional gardening to see which form of agriculture is more effecient. The inspiration for this project originally came from our common fondness for animals. When we came across the aquaponics system we were intrigued and wanted to further understand its capabilities, we especially wanted to know if it was a better form of agricultre than traditional gardening because if it is, why aren't we using it? For futhur investigation on this project I would like to know if fish tend to live longer in the system. Over the course of twenty days, none of our 15 fedeer goldfish died. If I could give advice to students doing science fair projects, it would be to do a project that you are genuinely interested in and want to learn more about. It makes the project more fun and much more interesting to learn about. |

Aquaponics system deals with the relationship between growing plants using nutrients provided by the fish. Over the course of 20 days, we observed the benefits of each system, and how they could change the face of agriculture in the future. |
