| My name is Matthew Chapman, I'm a grade 9 student at Bayview Community School in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. My hobbies are most sports but especially basketball as well as biking and motocross. I also enjoy buying and selling things on Kijiji. My project is on distracted driving. I got the inspiration for my project while I was sitting in our living room and thinking about project topics with my parents and my sister was busy texting her friends and it made me think how people are becoming more dependent on their phones and how much of a problem this is especially when driving ad I wondered if we could measure how testing might really driving. For future investigation I'd like to see if some sort of distracted driving test can be incorporated into drivers training. The advice I would give to other students is to think of a creative idea that interests you and start your research early! |

For my project I had my test subjects watch a simulated driving video both with and without text messages and asked them to count specific things that occurred in the video. I measured the difference to determine how many interactions they missed while texting. |
