Biography
I am a grade 8 student at F.H. Collins Secondary School in Whitehorse, Yukon. I enjoy many activities in Yukon, I participate in paddling, biathlon, cross country skiing, as well as hunting and fishing. For this reason, the health of the environment I live and play in, matters to me. I was interested in investigating microplastics in our community since we have a very good reputation as the Wilderness City. I hoped not to prove this wrong. This will be my second CWSF after attending Ottawa 2018, I found why so many people come back year after year. I was excited to receive a bronze Excellence Award last year! I enjoy the social aspect of this experience, I met so many friends and made lasting memories. Although a lot of work, Science Fairs are an amazing way to get inspired by others to do things you never thought you could do. Like, be the first person to test for microplastics in Yukon!

Pristine Waters: A Pioneering Project in Yukon River Microplastic Research
Challenge:Environment
Category:Junior
Region:Yukon Stikine
City:Whitehorse , YT
School:F. H. Collins
Abstract:My project is the first microplastic study in Yukon. The health of this environmentally fragile territory is vital not only for humans, as well as wildlife. Microplastics under 5mm were found in all locations sampled. This includes the Yukon River, snow, air, and tap water, sampled in and around Whitehorse. I also began growing awareness about microplastic pollution in Yukon.
