Biographie
My name is Skylar Barkhouse. I am 13 years old and I attend Bayview Community School in beautiful Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Last year in grade seven I attained the Principal's Platinum grade level standing. I am looking forward to receiving Platinum agiain this year. My favorite recreational activities are basketball, bicycling and swimming. This summer I plan to complete the Bronze Cross before beginning lifeguard training. I hope to become an instructor and help children learn to swim as my first summer job. I also enjoy singing and acting at my school and church. After my first few dental appointments as a young child, I knew I wanted to become a dentist. As a dentist, you work closely with the 5 senses so I chose to do my project about hearing as it was the sense I knew the least about. My quest led me to do tests about hearing damage. I was startled when my project revealed that hearing damage is occurring at very young ages. I plan to pursue youth hearing loss prevention through education and testing. Students should choose project topics based on their own curiosity because it fuels your quest for knowledge.
