Biography
Sarah Born is a Grade 12 student at Denis Morris Catholic Secondary School. She is extremely interested in the fields of chemistry and physics and plans to study chemical engineering at university next year. Sarah is also interested in languages and is proficient in French, competing and placing in various French language competitions. Sarah is also an accomplished musician and is working towards her grade 8 certificates in both piano and vocal. Sarah has been teaching piano and vocals at The Niagara Conservatory of Music for the past three years after completing a year of training and obtaining her teaching certificate. For three years she also worked at the St. Catharines Public Library as a Reference and Special Collections Page. Sarah is also dedicated to volunteer work and is a regular Child and Youth Volunteer at Gillian’s Place, a shelter for abused women and children. Sarah is very involved in her school community, taking part in school charity events and tutoring twice a week after school. Sarah also took part in the Brock Mentorship Program and her project, The Digital Ear Trainer is the result of a semester working in Brock’s Electronics Shop.

Abstract:The development of the musical ear through ear training is an essential part of every musicians practice regimen. In this project The Digital Ear Trainer was created, which is a portable audio device onto which customizable ear training tests can be downloaded and completed. The results can be uploaded onto a computer for viewing and can be saved into a database to track progress.
