Biographie
Benjamin Korol is a grade eleven student at Winston Knoll Collegiate in Regina, SK.  He is actively involved in the school community: as a member of several bands and choirs, as a representative on the SRC, and as a founding member of the school's science club. Outside of school, he dances many hours a week, as well as taking drama, musical theatre, voice, and piano lessons.  Every few months he is involved in a full-scale theatrical production.  Benjamin pursues science actively and enthusiastically, taking every available science class in school and designing and conducting research projects in his spare time. Benjamin is no stranger to the science fair movement: in 2009, when he was in grade 9, Benjamin was selected to attend CWSF in Winnipeg representing Regina. He won the Regina Regional Science Fair Committee's Choice Award at the 2010 RRSF.  At this year's RRSF, Ben featured his project on the effect that radiation emitted by cellular telephones may have on living cells. He was awarded the gold medal and best overall project and was selected to attend CWSF 2011 in Toronto.

The Effects of Non-Ionizing Radiation on Arabidopsis thaliana
Défi:Santé
Catégorie:Sénior
Région:Regina
Ville:Regina, SK
École:Winston Knoll Collegiate
Sommaire:The safety of cellphones and other electromagnetic-producing devices has recently become a controversial issue. By measuring the effects of two frequencies of radiation on Arabidopsis thaliana, it can be deduced that any deviation is paralleled in humans. Past studies have been inconclusive in determining any effects. It was found that the radiation did have an effect on the germination and development of the plants.
