Biography
My name is Madison Kieffer. As a grade 8 student I keep myself busy with school, extra-curricular activities, and sports teams. Over the years I have been involved with many sports teams including badminton, soccer, baseball, volleyball, track, and cross country running. I am a trombone player in the school band. I like to read, watch movies, have traveled extensively in Europe, and enjoy creating art. I also enjoy volunteering in the community. A lot of my spare time is spent outdoors. New Brunswick is a great province for outdoor activities! I have competed at District and Regional Science Fairs, and I have also attended several Regional Heritage Fairs. I hope to have a career in science. This is my second Canada Wide Science Fair. I look forward to my first visit to Lethbridge, Alberta!

Heating it Up! Finding the Specific Solution

Abstract:My project investigated and applied the science behind can calorimetry. In my experiment, I determined if using a liquid with a lower specific heat capacity than water (a liquid commonly used in the process of can calorimetry), to capture heat energy, would be more effective at capturing the calories released from a burning food.
