| Dayna - I think of myself as very well rounded individual. I am involved in many different programs and activities in my school. I am an international baccalaureate student in the French immersion program. However, I believe that getting involved and being apart of a community is just as important as academics. I give my time after school mostly to my sport teams; Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer and track and field but I make time to volunteer for countless events run By Sturgeon Heights. I've raised hundreds of dollars for world vision while participating in the 30 hour famine, and for the last few years I have been an ambassador for my school for many events such as open houses, tours and new student orientation. My plans for the future is to become a dentist. The inspiration for this project came from a car accident my friend and I were in a few months ago while driving on Winnipeg's slippery roads. If I were to take this project to the next level, I would attempt to create my own treatment for the road system. my advice to other students is choose a topic that can benefit your community or the world. | | Kaley - I am a very academic and athletic student. I participate in many sports such as soccer, ultimate Frisbee, track and field, I am in training as a distance runner and have completed seven half marathons in the last two years. I aspire to run a full marathon in my grade twelve year and one day qualify for the Boston marathon. I am also involved in the french international baccalaureate program. I often volunteer my free time to benefit others younger then I am, I am a peer tutor in math as well as a soccer coach for nine year old girls team. My plans for the future is to attend university of British Columbia (Kelowna campus) and study to become an engineer. The inspiration for this project came from the drive we have to better the safety of our cities roads because of personal experiences. My plans to further investigate Winnipeg road system would be to test the different types of wheels on cars instead of using any treatment at all. My advice to other students is when picking a project topic, use your personal experiences for inspiration because you will feel connected on a personal level to your project. |
