Biography
Hi, my name is Katherine Teeter. I am a grade nine student attending Grey Highlands Secondary School in Flesherton, Ontario. This is my third consecutive competition at CWSF and my fourth science fair project. Inspiration for this project originated from observing the devastation that was caused by hurricanes Katrina and Sandy and the Japanese tsunami of 2011. The need for a system that can protect coastal cities was evident. I like to learn new things and I strive to succeed at all endeavors. I play the clarinet in band, and I play piano in the RCM Examinations at a grade seven level. In my spare time I like to read, write, create home-made cards, and play outside with my dog. I help on the family farm as often as possible. I play girls hockey and co-ed fastball. I have attended Olympia Sports Camp for fastball where I won the team player award. Graduating from grade eight was a very successful experience as I received the science, instrumental music, french proficiency and les arts du language awards. Science fair has and will continue to change my life. Future endeavors may include medicine, lab technician or engineering.

Storm Surge: The Catastrophic Wave Diminution System
Challenge:Innovation
Category:Intermediate
Region:Bluewater
City:Markdale, ON
School:Grey Highlands S.S.
Abstract:This project designed, constructed, and tested a telescopic, catastrophic wave diminution system. This system reduced the wave heights by 87 % and was specifically engineered to withstand the most cataclysmic of wave events. Second wave destruction would be completely eliminated. Eleven percent of the world’s population would benefit from this system. Electricity was produced by this diminution system using multiple turbines and water wheel generators.
