My name is KC Mooney and I am in grade seven at Christ the King Elementary School. Some of my interests include sports such as basketball and baseball and art. I was inspired to do my project on heat loss in houses because in the Yukon it is very cold, and, you heat your house eight months out of the year so people are always looking for an inexpensive way to do so. For further investigations of my project I would like to test more inexpensive ways to save heat. Advice I would give to other people who want to do a science fair project is, try to find an experiment that has to do with your surroundings so that your materials are easier to find. I have been doing the science fair since grade five with my best friend, Isabel. We have been partners since the first year we started. Every year we entered we have won either first, second, or third. This is the first year we have done it separately, and fortunately we both made it to the nationals. For this year we separated projects but still worked together by combining and chairing our data. |

Défi: | Énergie | Catégorie: | Junior | Région: | Yukon Stikine | Ville: | Whitehorse , YT | École: | Christ the King Elementary | Sommaire: | Heating in the Yukon is expensive! I tested 19 homes in 9 subdivisions around Whitehorse to see if putting plastic shrink-wrap on windows really helps prevent heat loss. But, in the North, ‘keeping the heat in’ also means keeping other things in, so I teamed up with my friend, Isabel Magsucang, to also take a look at radon levels in drafty and airtight homes. |
