My name is Carlynn Davidson. I am a grade 9 student from Grant Park High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am a dedicated student who strives to learn to my fullest capacity. Last year I was honoured to win the gold medal award for the highest grade average of the grade 7 and 8 students. This accomplishment inspired me to continue to work hard, and it pushed me to work harder towards future achievements. Over the past year, I have become interested in the science of epidemiology; the branch of medicine dealing with the accumulation of disease. I find interest in learning how human lifestyle can influence our health. My desire is to continue to research under epidemiology and biology, as well as work under a mentoring system to help open my eyes to a broader scientific world. I hope to expand my ideas and work to examine human cells and DNA damage. I would definitely recommend to anyone with the faintest interest in science to accomplish a science fair experiment as it is a great opportunity and a unique learning experience. No project is too big or small, find what you love and complete a life-changing experiment. |
| Carlynn Davidson Enzyme Monster: The Effect of Alcohol on Enzyme Activity
Défi: | Santé | Catégorie: | Intermédiaire | Région: | Winnipeg Schools | Ville: | Winnipeg, MB | École: | Grant Park High | Sommaire: | Enzymes are highly specific and incredibly efficient biological molecules that develop biochemical reactions within living organisms. The objective of this experiment was to determine if alcohol damages enzymes, reducing their activity. My conclusion is important as enzymes are vital to life. If the abundant alcohol exposure damages enzymes, the reactions that are necessary to live would not occur fast enough to maintain the body. |
