My name is Miriam Ott. I am 13 years old attending Grade 7 at Holy Family School in Whitehorse, Yukon. I study hard, and am active in after-school sports. My favorite sports are soccer, basketball, and volleyball. I love music, and enjoy playing the piano. I am often found with a book in my hand, drawing cartoons or writing stories. I was born in Germany, but lived my first three years in Igloolik, Nunavut. I return to Germany every second summer with my family, where I practice my German. Last summer I was accepted into the Yukon Conservation Action Team, canoed down the Yukon River, and learned about helping to conserve the environment. In the future I would like to be a pediatric physiotherapist because I really like to help small children. I have participated in a Heritage Fair, bridge building competitions as well as Science Fairs, placing first at my school. This is the first time I have won for the Yukon region. I am excited to have been chosen to represent Yukon in Nova Scotia. |

Division: | Sciences de la vie / Aucun | Catégorie: | Junior | Région: | Yukon Stikine | Ville: | Whitehorse, YT | École: | Holy Family Elementary | Sommaire: | Considering the present concern for safe drinking water, this project studied the quality of tap water in Whitehorse, Yukon. Re-creating the process used in the city’s water testing lab, water samples from home and school were filtered and incubated, then tested for traces of total coliforms or E.coli. It was found that the water was safe to drink, showing no bacterial growth. |
