| Dreissenid Mussels – Nutrient Bio-accumulators
Challenge: | Environment | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | | City: | , | School: | | Abstract: | Invasive Dreissenid mussels have profoundly affected the water quality and food web structure in the Great Lakes since the 1990s. Dreissenid populations vary with conditions such as depth, food availability, temperature, substrate and prevailing current. While there have been a number of surveys across the Lakes for dreissenid abundance and age/size/species distribution, there is little information about the nature of the associated biofilm/pseudofecal material. |
