My name is Mycah DeJong. I am 13 years old and in the eighth grade at Trinity Christian School in Burlington, Ontario. I am the youngest of four children. I have been dancing since I was five years old, including tap, jazz, hip-hop, liturgical and musical theatre. I played house league soccer in Oakville for six years. I have participated in many extra-curricular sports teams such as volleyball, baseball, basketball and flag football. I am in student council, play the clarinet in concert band and was a lead in my school’s musical. I have been a Leader in Training in girl’s summer camp. I have done numerous fundraisers with my youth group at church. When I get older, I’d like to become a pediatrician or social worker. My inspiration for this project came from my brother, who took an Introductory Psychology class at McMaster University. For further investigations, I would like to see how the Stroop effect is demonstrated in people of different ethnicities and hand dominance. My advice to other students who are doing a project with human participants would be to get as many participants as you can. The more participants, the more accurate the results are. |

Challenge: | Health | Category: | Junior | Region: | Bay Area | City: | Oakville, ON | School: | Trinity Christian School | Abstract: | Intellectual Interference is an experiment in cognitive psychology, specifically how age and gender affects information processing. I used three original Stroop effect tests, and one test created by myself to test 102 males and females ages 8-85. The results clearly show that incongruent information becomes more difficult to process with increasing age and that gender has no impact. |
