| Magic Mushrooms
Challenge: | Environment | Category: | Junior | Region: | | City: | , | School: | | Abstract: | This project compares the growth of two varieties of mushrooms, under conditions contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, to see if a cold-tolerant mushroom, the blue oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus columbinus), which would be better for many parts of Canada, could have potential for mycoremediation (bioremediation using mycelia.) This experiment extends a previous study using white oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus). |
