| My name is Marina Ilyas, I'm 15, and I'm in grade 10 at WCI, Waterloo. I am very passionate about solving environmental issues, which was the inspiration for my project: Go Green, Drive Clean, where I developed a model that would provide users with the most eco-friendly route for any given trip. This is my second time attending CWSF, as I also participated in Regina, 2017. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, soccer, piano, viola, and violin. I was always interested in the field of mechanics, yet after a trip to my homeland, Egypt, I noticed how expensive healthcare was for those living in poverty, and I saw how much I could help by going into medicine. This sparked my passion for biology and science in general. In 2018, I participated in Technovation (an app-building competition), where I developed the app Settlegration, made to better integrate newcomers in the community. Settlegration won first place in the Toronto-Waterloo regional competition, and was one of 13 apps selected to represent Canada in the international semi-finals. I urge anyone wanting to make a difference and learn something new to participate in extracurriculars, because you never know what you may experience! |
