Biographie
My name is Isabelle Labeca-Gordon and I am a senior student at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Toronto, Ontario. I enjoy playing soccer, volunteering and surfing the internet. However, one thing that has set me apart is my passion for science. As the president of the science magazine at my school and an avid science fair contestant, I love to delve into all that is science. I have actually anchored my future career plans with this passion! What solidified my decision was my first Scitech regional science fair experience. It was exhilarating! I had been inspired by my chemistry teacher, Dr. Gabriel Ayyavoo, to act on my concerns about health care, and thus my project began to develop. To be able to see society potentially benefit from my work has been a great motivation and I would advise all students to engage in these competitions if it is your passion. It takes a lot of time and dedication, however there is no limit to where such projects can take you. I, myself, hope to continue to to work on research projects in my post secondary education and apply my knowledge to help others.

A Holistic Treatment for Recurring Cystitis
Défi:Santé
Catégorie:Sénior
Région:Toronto
Ville:Toronto, ON
École:Notre Dame C.S.S.
Sommaire:Due to the rumoured health benefits of green tea, four of its flavanols were tested to determine its potential as a natural antibiotic for cystitis. Using micro-broth dilution testing, the compounds EGCG and EGC demonstrated promising MICs of 8 ug/ml and 16 ug/ml against susceptible uropathogenic bacteria. These results suggest that green tea is a viable antimicrobial agent however, additional research is required.
