Lexi - My name is Allexan Jean Roberta Templeman, but my friends call me Lexi. I was born on October 13, 1999. I am in grade 7 at St. Columban School, in Southwestern Ontario. I have 6 people in my family. My dad Richard, my mom Margaret- Ann, my big brother Nathan (16), my sister Jordan (14), me, and my little brother Landan (10). We have 2 dogs. Frisbee is 8 years old and is a Heinz 57. Ava is 11 months old and is a morkie. During the winter I play hockey for the Kitchener Lady Rangers “AA” team and during the summer I play baseball for the Mitchell Hornets. I also like to play some school sports such as soccer, 2-pitch, volleyball, and basketball. I got the inspiration for this project because I love to play hockey, and I wanted to know which stick is better, wood or fibre glass. Some further investigations that I would do would be to take slapshots so that we could have more evidence for our research. If someone was thinking about doing a project I would tell them to be prepared because it is a lot of work.
Emma - All about me Hello my name is Emma. I am 12 years old. I live on a farm. I have five people in my family. My Dad, Mom, one sister and one Brother. My sister is 11 years old and brother is 9 years old. On my dad’s farm we have dairy cows, pigs and cash crops. In the summer we have chickens and turkeys. I love to read and play hockey, my brother and sister and I have great imaginations and play outdoors as much as we can. I love living in the country because you have so much space to run around and play. I chose my experiment on Hockey sticks/pucks because I enjoy playing hockey and I wanted to see what was better for me to use. I play on an all girls team. We won our division last year, this year we weren’t so lucky but we still had fun.

Abstract:We investigated the performance and value of hockey sticks. We completed a cost analysis of the top 10 sticks for our age group. Using a radar gun and scale, we measured the breaking point, accuracy and speed of shots (wrist and slapshot). We found that the choice of stick depends on the position and players frequently do not receive maximum performance for the purchase price.
