I'm a grade ten student in the IB program at my school. I play tenor sax in the concert and jazz band. I compete as a figure skater for Skate Winnipeg and also volunteer as a program assistant with the club. I have played piano for the past 12 years and will take the Royal Conservatory of Music grade 8 practical exam this June. In grade 5 I started to create science fair projects and have received gold medals every year at both my regional and provincial science fairs. This is my third trip to Canada Wide and I am so honored to have been chosen to be a part of it again this year. I like spending time with my friends, travelling, reading, computers and gaming. After high school I plan to pursue a degree in a science/engineering related field. I am looking forward to another exciting and informative experience at this years fair. |
| Rylen de Vries Gone With The Wind Tunnel (testing for better ballistic missile design)
Challenge: | Discovery | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | Manitoba Schools Science Symposium | City: | Winnipeg, MB | School: | Kelvin High School | Abstract: | I created a wind tunnel to test the aerodynamics of different designs of rockets. I wanted to find out which designs worked best when launched on a ballistic trajectory. I then launched the rockets and found that the results from the wind tunnel accurately predicted what happens in a real world situation. |
