Biographies
Kathryn - Kathryn Bowers is from Paradise Newfoundland & Labrador, and is a Grade 12 student at Holy Spirit High School. She is a member of numerous committees and activities at school including School & Cabaret band, Interact Club, Dance committee, tutor for the Tutoring for Tuition program, and art/set design. Kathryn is also involved in outside activities including Youth and Senior band at her church, teacher and performer of tap dancing with the St. Pats Dancers, chair of a community youth council, Sunday School teacher and active community cheer volunteer! Kathryn attended the Canada Wide Science fair in both 2010 and 2011 and was delighted to receive a Gold (2010) and bronze (2011) medal in the Junior Health Science division. She was thrilled to be chosen again this year to represent her region in the Canada Wide Science Fair and is looking forward to another exciting and informative experience at CWSF 2014!
Joycelyn - Joycelyn Moulton is a grade 12 student at Holy Spirit High School, residing in Paradise, Newfoundland. She is a member of many school committees and community organizations and takes pride in each one. In school, she is a member of the Concert and Cabaret band, President of the Interact Club, a member of the dance committee, a tutor with Tutoring for Tuition, a member art/set design and tech crew, and is the editor of the school newspaper. Joycelyn is also involved in the community as a member of the CBS Concert Band, an instructor and performer of tap dancing with the St. Pat's Dancer's, and a member of her towns' youth council. This is Joycelyn's first Canada Wide Science Fair, and she is excited to have been chosen to represent her region!

The Heinous Carcinus maenas

Abstract:The focus of this year long study of the Carcinus maenas was to investigate the correlation between time of year and the Gonadosomatic Index Percentage of the Green Crab and to determine whether abiotic factors (air/water temperature, salinity) affect the abundance of the Green Crab. Additional investigation was conducted to determine the possibility of Green crab as potential organic compost to alleviate this existing problem.
