Shaan - My name is Shaan Baig. I attend Centennial Regional High School (CRHS), Greenfield Park, Quebec. My first science fair was in grade six in Harold Napper Elementary School where I won Gold and the "most creative" award. In CRHS, I won gold in the science fair in grades 7, 8, and 9 with "Best Overall Project" by both the judges and students in grade 9 at CRHS. In MRSTF (regional fair), I won "great distinction" and the Concordia Mechanical Engineering Award in grade 7, "Highest Distinction," the QSA and the McGill Mechanical Engineering Award in grade 8, and Best Overall Project, Gold in my category, 1 year scholarship in Concordia in grade 9. Pastimes include ice hockey, volleyball, badminton and lacrosse. Other pastimes include Robotics where I worked on the Kiosk (Gold) in this years competition. In Centennial, I am in the TaG (Talented and Gifted) Program where my favourite subjects are math and science. My current post-secondary study interest is Health Sciences and my current career interest is medicine. This year I was inspired to do my project on prostate cancer, the most common cancer effecting men. We plan to continue testing our new treatment this summer.
Labib-Daiyan - My name is Labib-Daiyan Syed and I am in grade 9 and attending Centennial Regional High School I live with both my parents and with my older sister along with my older brother. My interest lay in the field of science. I have participated in various activates; like, playing soccer for the intercity league and being class representative. For over the last three years I have participated in the Montreal Regional Science and Technology Fair (MRSTF) and have always tried creating innovative projects. Thought my science fair life I have always had bacteria related topics, and over this summer there has been a lot of commotion about silver colloid being an anti-microbial agent because of its capabilities of being able to kill bacteria. This inspired me to use silver colloid on Pc3 cells a prostate cancer cell, to see if it is more effective on treating then a chemotherapy drug known as rapamycin. At first I always thought truly creating something innovative would be impossible behalf of me in the science fair, however with hard work and dedication to pursue something that I loved enabled is to achieve my dreams and every student can to the same.

Abstract:In this experiment, we tested a new treatment for prostate cancer that can be used as an effective alternative. We tested silver colloid to see if it had a positive effect on the cancer cells. It showed that it was able to work as good as rapamycin (chemotherapy drug) and only target the cancer cells remaining harmless to healthy cells.
