| Andy Glendinning is a 13 year old boy, currently in grade 8 student at Waverly Public School in Oshawa, Ontario. He enjoy participating in a variety of school activities, including sports (volleyball, hockey, and soccer), band (percussion), and leadership. Outside of school, if he is not enjoying sports with his friends, he is probably enjoying video games. His project is a better gripper for disabled and elderly people - something to help them open jars and bottles. Andy is hard of hearing and uses two hearing aids. He has been hard of hearing since he was born and has relied on the use of hearing aids and other devices such as FM systems and microphones to better hear the world around him. With this in mind, he wanted to help other people with disabilities. For his project, he decided to design and build a device to help people who could not open jars or bottles without assistance. His target group to help include the elderly, people with arthritis and the disabled. At this time, for the future, Andy plans on going to university and is thinking of pursuing a degree in Architecture or Engineering. |
