| Assessing Environmental Toxicities: Amphibians as Bioindicators
Challenge: | Environment | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | | City: | , | School: | | Abstract: | In this project, commonly encountered substances (analgesics, contraceptives, antibiotics, cosmetic ingredients, tap water) were evaluated for developmental toxicity and teratogenic effects on embryonic stages of the African-clawed frog for the purpose of classifying these substances in their respective MSDS's, and to isolate potential factors in the decline of amphibians. In addition, excess exposure to UV-B rays were quantified to monitor their direct effects on amphibians. |
