Biography
My name is Avery Dextrase. I'm fourteen years old and I'm in grade eight at Westmount Public School in Peterborough Ontario. I play basketball and soccer and I play the piano. I love animals and I enjoy reading and spending time outdoors. I've had an interest in butterflies for a long time and wanted to do a project on them. I have also noticed that the butterfly watching is better in the country than in the city and wanted to find out why.

Where the Butterflies Roam

Abstract:The purpose of my project was to find out whether rural or urban meadows had more butterflies and more butterfly species. I surveyed two meadows of each type nine times each. Even though the urban sites had more flowers, the rural sites had more butterflies and butterfly species. I believe that it was the environment surrounding the sites that affected the number of butterflies.
