Biographie
My name is Caroline Mahut and I am 15 years old. I was born February 1st 1999 in Burlington, Ontario. I am a Grade 9 student in the French Immersion Program at M.M. Robinson High School. As I have a polish heritage, I am fluent in the Polish language as well as French and English. My favourite hobbies include reading, playing piano and cross country running. I am also a member of the Polish girl guides and attend Polish language classes. I plan to become a lifeguard and, to date, have completed the Bronze Cross Swimming course. My project inspiration came from my project from the previous year about fuel efficient aircrafts. I realized that fuel efficiency will prolong the amount of time we have our fossil fuels and instead we should be searching for newer, renewable fuel sources. I then decided to look into algae biofuels and I learned about all the other environmental benefits that it also provides. If you are considering doing a science project it is best to start with an exciting topic that really interests you and keep exploring new ideas that improve it.

Sommaire:The purpose of my project was to determine if algae is able to grow under products of combustion and if so, what affects the growth rate. I tested the algae in a homemade bioreactor and found that it grew better under flue gas, on flue gas timed intervals, with increased light intensity and with a standard bubbling design.
