Biography
Hello! I'm Skye. I'm 14 years old and just about to finish grade 8. This will be my 2nd year at CWSF and I'm very excited to be a part of it. I've had a keen interest in all things science-related for a number of years, and believe it’s important to work hard, and follow your dreams. I play rep soccer for Unionville-Milliken Mills, and participate in many school sports teams including volleyball, ultimate frisbee, soccer and tennis. This summer I will be going to Greece for 3 weeks to study, and help with, turtle conservation and rehabilitation.

Enhancing Wetland Bioremediation
Challenge:Environment
Category:Junior
Region:York
City:MARKHAM, ON
School:Unionville Montessori School
Abstract:This project explores an innovative approach to enhancing bioremediation of wetland-aquifer systems. A porous flow channel and recirculation pump were introduced into a simulated wetland-aquifer system. Rates of phenol degradation of test systems were compared to a control system with minimal flow and no recirculation. The rate of phenol degradation by the test systems were 4 to 8 times that of the control system.
