Biography
I am Emma Palmer, a grade 7 student at Pretty River Academy, in Collingwood, Ontario. Outside of school, I spend as much time as I can reading, learning aerial silks, and competitive figure skating. I love to volunteer in my community and am part of the local Interact club. I help out at my skating club teaching the younger skaters . Every year since grade 4 I have had the pleasure of attending the regional science fair, and have always been looked up to my friends going to CWSF. This year I am thrilled to be going myself. I was inspired for this project, when I discovered the scale infestation on my family's citrus trees and wanted to find a way to remove the bugs without using commercial pesticides that are proven to harm the environment and can cause cancer, Alzheimers, and birth defects. If I investigated further I would test whether these same solutions would work to kill different pests. If you are an aspiring young scientist, I advise you not to give up, try, try, and try again, and if that doesn't work, keep trying!
