Biographies
Avi - I am Avi Sahota, a grade 8 student from Tomken Road Middle School, currently in the Sci-Tech program. I am a determined and devoted student who is always involved with activities. I love volunteering as I always try helping others in as many ways as I possibly can and I have a passion for figure skating. My inspiration for my project came from when I wondered how difficult it must be for people who cannot even meet their living standards and do not even have the basic necessities to live and immediately I thought about clean water. I wanted to develop an easy and inexpensive way so that clean water will be available. For further investigations, I want my project to be used in our current world and benefit many people by providing clean water. To any other students who are thinking of doing a science fair project, I highly suggest that they do. I was nervous at first, but everyone was very welcoming and it most defiantly one of the best experiences ever. Now, I made it to Canada Wide which I am very thrilled for, but this all started off with me participating in science fair at first.
Jasmeen - I am Jasmeen Mander and am currently in grade 8 attending the school Tomken Road Middle School for the SciTech program. My partner and I got the inspiration of our project by wanting to help others who are desperately need of resources we do not have to struggle for. The main resource that is necessary for survival is water and many people especially in third world countries have limited access. So we decided to purify water in such a way in which it is inexpensive and easily purified so it can be available to all. For further improvements and investigations, we would like to increase the size of PET containers so more water is purified in less time. Currently, only PET bottles are available however we would like to make large PET containers so they are more efficient. For other students, participating in science fair, I recommend them to chose a topic in which they are interested in so when they conduct their project, they give their best effort to make it successful in a way its beneficial to society.

Sommaire:One of the most important resources we need to survive is water and people living in many countries are desperately in need. We decided to test if contaminated water can be purified in sunlight or shade using PET bottles. By using PET bottles, clean water will be available to most due to UV-A rays from the sun creating an inexpensive process to purify water.
