Biographie
Roselyn Thom is a grade 11 student at Lord Byng Secondary School. This her second CWSF, and she is elated to be coming back! When not attempting to be a mad scientist, she is an avid musician. She has completed her Royal Conservatory Associate Diploma in both piano and cello. She has also performed with various orchestras at Vancouver's Orpheum Theatre and New York's Lincoln Centre. Aside from music, she swims competitively and enjoys re-reading the Harry Potter series. This year, Roselyn's project looks at the effects of Facebook on teenage mental health. As an avid user of Facebook herself, she found this topic fascinating! To other students thinking about doing a science fair project, she says "Go for it!"

Sommaire:My project uses survey methods to determine how Facebook use correlates with mental health outcomes in adolescents. Having a Facebook account did not correlate with higher rates of depression or lower rates of self-esteem. However, active Facebook use correlated with higher rates of depression. Factors influencing this trend included gender, number of social media accounts, and the age participants began using social media.
