| My name is Madeleine Yeomans and I am a Grade 9 student at Chippewa Secondary School. I participate on many school sports teams such as cross-country running, golf, badminton and soccer. I play competitive ringette and soccer. Finally, I play the trumpet in the school band. Science is my favourite subject in school and I will pursue a career in some field of science. The inspiration for my project came from an episode of the CBC radio show Quirks and Quarks. They interviewed Alanna Mitchell, who wrote a book on microplastics in the ocean. I wondered if microplastics are in the lake in North Bay. I have not decided if I will do further research on this project. My advice for anyone thinking of doing a project is the hardest part of the whole project is coming up with your topic. After that, everything else is easy. |

I collected three samples at different times of day. I was able to identify and quantify these plastics. |
