Biography
I'm from Vancouver, BC and my project is called Wild Diesel Destroyers. My science fair project has helped me learn a lot about myself and has inspired me to continue research in the future. I love working on my project and researching relevant papers. I really hope to do my research in the summer and during my undergraduate degree at either Queens or UBC. My hobbies include sports but specifically track and field. Sports have have played a huge part of my entire life. In addition, I volunteer with multiple clubs at my school. For example, I am the executive of my school's leadership team and I'm involved with the Young Blood for Life team. I aim to be as well rounded as possible and because of this I try to be involved in various areas of my community.

Wild Diesel Destroyers
Challenge:Environment
Category:Senior
Region:Greater Vancouver
City:Vancouver, BC
School:David Thompson Secondary
Abstract:My project looks at the potential use of yeast, isolated from British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, to biodegrade diesel. I am working with 14 strains of yeast on 3 main assays: Acclimation, a Screening Test, and Bioremediation test. Since yeast are relatively easy to work with, they may one day be involved in multiple hydrocarbon degradation applications like cleaning oil drums or gasoline containers.
