Biography
Hi! My name is Sunand Kannappan, and I'm a Grade 10 student from Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Alberta. I've always had an interest for science and truly appreciate the chances I have had to participate in science fairs and express my passion for science. More than presenting my scientific research, I love the chance that CWSF offers to meet great people from across the nation. Last year's science fair in Windsor was great and I really look forward to this year's science fair in Fredericton!

Elucidating the Role of CDK5RAP2 in NSCLC
Challenge:Health
Category:Intermediate
Region:Calgary Youth
City:Calgary, AB
School:Sir Winston Churchill High School
Abstract:Despite the prevalence of Non-Small-Cell-Lung-Cancer (NSCLC) with over 1.4 million deaths annually, NSCLC survival rates are notoriously low. Acknowledging the need for more effective treatment and diagnosis methods which target molecular mechanisms of NSCLC, this project focuses on the CDK5RAP2 enzyme. CDK5RAP2 was found to be upregulated in NSCLC cell lines, while having high potential of contributing to NSCLC through investigated Mad2 and CDK5 pathways.
