| My name is Sophia Green. I'm a grade nine student at Bible Hill Junior High in Nova Scotia. Bible Hill is a small community, just outside of Halifax. When not in school, I love to play sports and spend time with my friends and family. Some of my favorite sports are volleyball, track, figure skating and tennis. This year, I am on the 15U competitive volleyball team that is going to provincials. I have been running and skating since I was four years old and really enjoy them both. This will be my first time at CWSF and I can not wait! I became inspired to do this project when visiting my grandparents in Digby. My grandfather was a lobster fisherman and we began talking about the drastic changes he has seen in marine life, I was so fascinated by his experiences that I decided to do a project to investigate. Since I did my experiment using mussel shells, in the future, I would be very interested in see the effects this experiment would have on other types of marine life. Doing this project has taught me to be inquisitive and diligent while investigating science and I recommend the experience! |

Marine Life Murder! – A Study of Ocean Acidification

In this project, the effect of this increased acidification was investigated on mussel shells. This experiment showed that mussel shells in water that was acidic lost a substantial amount of weight producing evidence that the increased carbon dioxide and acidity in ocean water causes harm to marinelife. |
