| My name is Chelsea Sammurtok and I am a grade 10 student at Maani Ulujuk Ilinniarvik in Rankin Inlet, NU. In my spare time I enjoy playing video games and basketball. I also like going ice fishing and hanging out with my friends. Some of my most memorable experiences have been traveling with my family to places like Nova Scotia, New York and Manitoba. When I am done high school I want to attend Red River College for a computer technology program. I chose my topic for my science fair project because it is culturally relevant. Many women in Nunavut carry their babies on their backs in a snuggly or amauti and I wanted to see if this is harming their physical health. In the future I would like to investigate how the snuggly or amauti affects how people walk. The advice I would give other students about their project is to put as much effort in as possible and give yourself a lot of time to make sure you do things well. I would also tell them to try and be confident and not too shy. |

I placed dots at four locations on each participant. I took photographs of each participant wearing a baby carrying device before and after a 10lb baby was present in the carrier. I compared changes in movement of the dots before and after to identify change in posture. |
