| Massimo - My name is Massimo Giannone, from Toronto ON. I am a grade seven student at Upper Canada College. I am a competitive arts student involving Art, Music and Drama. I enjoy traveling to other countries and experiencing their diverse cultures. My whole family has a keen eye for art; over the years I have grown fond of the arts and wish to pursue my parents company in Architecture. In my early years of education we learned to do experiments and critically think of how to improve them, those years sparked my enthusiasm for science. Earlier this year we were asked to choose a science fair topic. At first I was unsure of what to do, then I remembered a popular topic and strategy of if listening to music helps you study. I got interested in human psychology and eventually created my topic “How Colour Affects Memory.” In the near future I would like to test many more people to get even clearer results. My advice to anyone else doing Science Fair, is to be interested in your topic and to be keen on learning more about it. | | Grant - My name is Grant Lau, from Toronto, ON. I am a grade seven student attending Upper Canada College. I have many interests in a wide variety of fields. I am a competitive golfer, I play piano at a grade 10 level and I enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures. While I currently live in Canada, I was a resident in London, England for over four years. This is where my passion for science began. A few years later, I was asked to choose a Science Fair topic. At first, I was unsure of what to do. Then I remembered a talk about how music helps people study. I got curious about Human Psychology and eventually created a topic of my own -“How Colour Affects Memory”. In the near future, I would like to take this study further. My partner and I have already tested two factors affecting memory and would be interested to extend our research even further by testing even more different variables. My advice to anyone else doing a Science Fair project would be to know your topic in depth. Be prepared to talk to the judges about your topic, not just recite a speech. |

What Colour Was That?

Students attempted to memorize coloured numbers that were projected on a screen. After 80 tests, it was found that changing the text colour had almost no affect on a person’s memorization. The experiment was repeated with a constant colour but different font sizes. |
