| Alim - My name is Alim Parhar. I attend University Hill Secondary School and I am in Grade 8. I enjoy reading, biking and playing Ultimate Frisbee in my spare time. My favourite subjects in school are Science, English, and Math. I got interested in science fairs when I was in grade 5, and I did my first one with my sister when I was in grade 6. I have been doing them every year since then, so in other words, this is my third year. This year, I an doing it with my brother. This is the first time that either of us have gone to the Canada-wide science fair. | | Safal - My name is Safal Parhar. I am in Grade 7 and I attend Shaughnessy Elementary School, Vancouver BC. I started my first science fair project last year, with my brother. It was an amazing experience that gave me passion to participate in one again this year. In my spare time, I enjoy reading action-packed books, watching thrilling movies, learning about animals, and playing sports. Some of the sports I participate in are Swimming, Soccer, Badminton, Volleyball, Ultimate, Biking, and Martial Arts. I enjoy taking CPR/AED courses whenever I can. I took my first course because I was curious and wanted to know how to save someone's life. After I took my second course, I felt completely ready. I got inspiration to do this project because I noticed that my grandmother and would apply turmeric powder to a wound. I wanted to know if it turmeric actually improves wound healing. For further investigations, I could try doing this project again but on different items, such as herbs. I could also try this experiment, but on humans instead. I had always wanted to become a doctor or a veterinarian, so this project has given me one step closer to my future career. |

Does Turmeric Enhance the Regeneration of Planaria maculata?

Turmeric is a spice that is thought to have special healing qualities. We cut Planaria halves and places them into three different concentrations of turmeric, three concentrations of Polysporin, and one control. We concluded that turmeric does enhances the regeneration of Planaria more than Polysporin and the control. |
