My name is Meredith, I am a senior in high school and I am planning to attend Mount Allison University in September. I am passionate about art and I love to read and swim. I got the inspiration for my project from my Dad. He was looking for an environmentally friendly, inexpensive way to heat his garage. After looking into it on the internet, I found this idea for a pop can heater. My plans for further investigation would be to find a way to permanently install the pop can heater in our garage and see if it would be sufficient as the only source of heat. My advice to other students would be to just participate. Over the years I have noticed that, as I have gotten older, the participation has gone way down since it is no longer mandatory in high school. It is a great opportunity to meet new friends, learn some things and, as a senior in high school, I had an excellent chance of winning scholarships and awards. I didn't expect to make it to Nationals but a little effort can take you a long way in life. |

Défi: | Énergie | Catégorie: | Sénior | Région: | Tri-County | Ville: | Yarmouth County, NS | École: | Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School | Sommaire: | My pop can heater is powered by a solar panel which sucks cold air from a room into the heater. The air is then pushed through holes in the rows of pop cans and the heated air is released back into the room. The cans are painted black to absorb the sun's energy which helps to heat the air as it passes through. |
