| I am in grade 7 at MacLeod Public School in Sudbury, ON. At school, I am involved in team sports such as volleyball, track and field, floor hockey, softball, and have a key role in the upcoming school play. I play piano, saxophone, acoustic guitar and electric guitar. In my community, I am active in many sports such as hockey (as a goalie), football, baseball, water-skiing and snowboarding too. I love my two Newfoundland dogs - they weigh more than me ! My family enjoys camping, hiking, annual vacations to Florida, and spending time with cousins. I don't yet know what my career path will be but I do enjoy science. In fact, I just won GOLD in the Math and Science Olympics at Science North. I was inspired to study worms and composting because we have a family worm bin and a huge vegetable garden which I help my Dad with. My family also has honey bees so I plan to do a science fair in the future with them. All kids should remember to have fun when conducting a science experiment - I sure did ! |

The Effect of Worms on the Decomposition of Food Waste

I observed the effect of Eisenia fetida on digestion of fruit/vegetable scraps to find that these worms were more effective at decomposing food than if no worms were present. More worms were better than fewer worms. Let’s contribute, on a small scale, towards climate change control by vermicomposting at home. |
