Martina - My inspiration for my project came from a lab that I did during science class, we had to clean windows to see which cleaning product was better. My partner and I then decided that we wanted to test just how harmful cleaning products are for our body. For further investigations we would like to test the cleaning products on the epidermis (or a skin cell), test the cleaning product on the Daphnia's reproductive system to see how it will affect the pregnant Daphnia and how the baby Daphnia's will turn out after being in chemical cleaning products. The advise I would give to other students who are thinking of doing a project would be, if you have an idea, that you think can help develop our world and make it better, go for it and don't give up! I love to play soccer and love learning new things especially during science class. I've won awards at the regional fair and provincial fair. At the regional fair I won 3rd place and received 500 dollars and at the provincial fair i won 500 dollars as well. In the future I intend to study medicine and hopefully one day become a doctor.
Erika - My name is Erika Talatinian and I am a 16 year old girl from Québec who loves science. I took an interest in this subject upon first entering secondary one. I plan on going into health sciences as a post secondary education because I am intrigued by the medical field. I got the inspiration for my project when reading about the countless chemical cleaners that end up in our ecosystem and deteriorate it. Further investigations that I would like to pursue would be seeing how various cleaning products can affect other parts of the body such as the epidermis and reproductive system. My advice to others would be to put in the effort and strive for greatness. At the end of the day, when your project is finally complete, you will feel a strong sense of accomplishment.

Daphnia vs. Cleaning Products
Défi:Découverte
Catégorie:Intermédiaire
Région:Montreal
Ville:Laval, QC
École:Laval Senior Academy
Sommaire:Chemical cleaning products have proven to not only be a hazard to humans, such as development of allergies and rashes, but also for our environment. We decided to test both natural and chemical cleaning products on Daphnia magna to see which cleaner would be the most harmful to its nervous system.
