Biographie
Hi, my name is Owen McKinley-Young. I am 13 years old and live in Ottawa, Ontario with my parents and my older brother and sister. I am in grade seven at York Street Pubic School. Some of my favorite hobbies are reading and listening to music as well as playing the guitar and the violin. I also am learning percussion and hope to get into a specialized arts program for high school. I love playing sports including speed skating, basketball, baseball, soccer, and volleyball. In fact, I already visited Fredericton in March to compete for Team Ontario in the Canada East Speed Skating Championships! This is my first year attending the Canada Wide Science Fair. In the Ottawa science fair my project was entered the in the innovation category. I designed a lever to help a wheelchairs get over curbs. I do intend to continue to work on my project in the future and hopefully market it! I am very interested in science and it is one of my best subjects! I am super excited to be heading down to Fredericton this year for this amazing experience!

Sommaire:Getting over a curb is common problem that wheelchair users face on a daily basis. For my science fair project, I created a simple solution consisting of a set of two levers which lift the front wheels of the wheelchair onto the curb. The levers attach to the sides of the wheelchair and are held in place by a small hook when not in use.
