Biography
My name is Jordan Funk and I am 13 years old. I currently attend O.M. Irwin School in Swift Current SK and I am in the eighth grade. I like to hunt, fish, and play baseball. My favorite time of the year is Christmas and Whitetail season. Last Whitetail season I killed a 150+ inch buck with my brand new .270 rifle. At school I play badminton and volleyball. I got the idea for my project when I noticed how warm your drain pipe becomes when hot water is used. I thought that there must be some better way of using this energy then simply watching it proceed down the drain. This inspired my idea for the snow melt innovation. If I had to give advice to anyone who wanted to do a Science Fair project, I would tell them to try to think of an idea which is new and original. Judges really like to see original innovation and ingenuity. I would also instruct them to have fun and enjoy their Science Fair experience!!

Heat Recovery System: New Snow Melt Solution
Challenge:Innovation
Category:Junior
Region:Saskatchewan Chinook
City:Swift Current, SK
School:O.M. Irwin Middle Years School
Abstract:I've come up with a new and revolutionary way to use wasted water heat in the household. I used a heat recovery system, which takes heat from your drain pipe and uses it to melt the snow and ice on driveways. After building a model and testing my project in extremely cold -37 Degrees Celsius conditions, I was successfully able to melt a driveway's snow.
