Biography
My name is James and I got the inspiration for my project from my love of hiking and camping trips. I have loved the outdoors for as long as I can remember. I intend to continue my experiments with camping stoves by testing how the stoves do boiling different temperatures and amounts of water and at different altitudes. I would advise a student thinking about doing a project to chose a topic that they are passionate about because inspiration is vital. I am enrolled in the F.H. Collins grade 8 French Immersion program in Whitehorse, Yukon. The Yukon has been my home for six years and I am privileged to have access to remote alpine environments. I wish to be an engineer and I have a great enthusiasm for Math.

Camping Stove Efficiency For Summertime Alpine Hiking
Challenge:Discovery
Category:Junior
Region:Yukon Stikine
City:Whitehorse, YT
School:F. H. Collins
Abstract:In this project I tested 10 different alpine camping stoves and 2 different pots for fuel efficiency, weight and speed. I weighed each stove, timed how fast it took them to boil water and weighed how much fuel they used. The Isobutane/Propane stoves were the fastest and most fuel efficient but this did not overcome the low initial weight of the alcohol stove systems.
