Sadriar - Hey, my name is Sadriar Alam. I am a senior student from Widdifield Secondary School. Me and my partner found the inspiration for our 'Project SP' by noticing the amount of waste made by us regularly. More than ~70% of which were plastic materials. We will try our best to perfect the shaping of our 100% organic plastic in the future. I know this because so far I had a lot of fun doing the project. An advice to future scientists, look for a project that makes you feel like your are having fun doing something important. | Tiara - I am a fun-loving, outgoing young woman who loves to try new things. I enjoy singing and playing guitar as well as acting. I love camping and fishing, and just spending as much time as I can in the beautiful nature of Northern Ontario. I have participated on my schools student council and music council in the past. I have been involved in the school choir, band, and acting group. I hope to excel in my studies at University and move on into medicine where hopefully I will become a trauma doctor. I have collected multiple awards throughout my schooling including leadership awards and excellence awards. I also collected some amazing awards from the North Bay Regional Science Fair both in my grade 10 year and this year. To anyone thinking about doing a project, I highly suggest it. The joy of discovery is one of the best feelings in the world. Science Fair is a great opportunity to meet lots of people and learn new facts. I cannot wait to see where science can take me, and I wish the best to others going into the field! |

Challenge: | Environment | Category: | Senior | Region: | North Bay | City: | North Bay, ON, Mattawa, ON | School: | Widdifield Secondary | Abstract: | Plastic causes great strain on our environment. Scientists believe plastic does not breakdown for over 700 years…maybe. Our goal was to create an organic, non-toxic plastic that can biodegrade in the natural environment. Using materials such as starch and glycerol, we were successful. In the future we hope to create a disposable water bottle which will not end up in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. |
