I am a grade 9 student at Uniacke District School, Mt. Uniacke, NS. I enjoy sports, school, and spending time with my friends. I perform in a performance band at my school, and my instrument is percussion. I enjoy all subjects at school, and I love to learn. When I graduate high school, I plan to go to university. As a career, my interests are in archaeology, paleontology, or prosthetic engineering. I greatly enjoy science fair because it is a great experience and an awesome learning experience. What inspired me to create this year's science fair topic was the real world application. |

Challenge: | Innovation | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | Chignecto West | City: | Mount Uniacke, NS | School: | Uniacke District School | Abstract: | This project was based around the design of a magnetic shock absorber, using different shaped neodymium permanent magnets. I tested different magnets, weights, and tubes. This shock absorber supports the weight of an object as well as absorbing shock the system encounters, which makes it different from conventional shock absorbers. These can be used where other shock absorbers are not practical, or not present. |
