Biography
My name is Jessica Yemen and I am a grade 9 student attending Valour JK-12 School in Petawawa ON. I would say that I am very friendly, hard working, creative, active and passionate person. This is my second year at CWSF. My favourite subjects in school are math, science and art. I do many sports such as volleyball, basketball, badminton, track and I made it to OFSAA (Provincials) for xc skiing and running this year. Outside of school I am a brown belt in the Petawawa Goju Karate club. I am very involved with the community by volunteering at local hockey games, helping out at church and other local activities. For the past 4 years, all of my science fair projects have been health related, however this year I am in the environmental category. I recently heard about Sodis, I decided to do more research and then make a project out of it. For further investigations, I would like to experiment with the Sodis process in the summer months under different conditions and use different sources. I advise other students to find something that you're passionate about and give yourself a lot of time to do the experiment/research.

Category:Intermediate
Region:Renfrew County
City:Pembroke, ON
School:Valour JK-12 School
Abstract:The Sodis process is used in many developing countries to disinfect contaminated water. The process only requires sunlight, and PET(1) plastic bottles. The sunlight kills the pathogens in the water, therefore making it drinkable. There are numbers 1-7 in the RIC system. I am discovering which RIC will work most effectively in disinfecting water in the Sodis process and why.
