| Growing up, I was very fortunate to have parents that loved to host dinner discussions on various things. Of course, the "things" encompassed everything from international politics to poetry, and finally to the newest science innovations. Through those discussions, I was able to generate the first spark of an idea for my science fair project. I am also very thankful for Dr. Lingyun Chen from the University of Alberta for mentoring and supporting me in this project. With her help, I was able to collect data from various science journals and create a literary review on the lotus seed's potential commercial usage as a treatment for neurodegenerative diseases and identify research gaps for further experimentation. In the future, I hope that I have the chance to perform these experiments and generate a new type of treatment for neurodegenerative diseases using the lotus seed. |
