Abstract:This project investigates the antibacterial properties of turmeric and curcumin. In vitro, both exhibited antibacterial activity upon direct contact. Curcumin was slightly more effective. Both were more effective when heated. There is strong evidence that bacteria cause gastrointestinal infections and inflammation such as IBS, IBD and Peptic Ulcers. Therefore, consuming turmeric and curcumin can be an effective preventive measure against these disorders.
