| Liesl - We are 14 year old twins and live in Calgary, AB. We enjoy competitive barrel racing, play club volleyball, and are members of Springbank Rawhides 4-H Club with equine and life-skills. Our love of music has led us to the honour of going to provincials for classical piano and voice. Homeschooling has helped to develop our enthusiasm for science and has nurtured our love of learning. We care about human and animal health and welfare, which led to our interest in biosecurity. Our research on chemical mechanisms propelled us to conduct an experiment that would investigate the efficacy of our homemade cleaning agents compared with commercial cleaners used for daily biosecurity in the home. We plan to further research and develop our innovations so they might be potentially recommended for use in third world countries where commercial cleaners are less available. Our advice to other students would be to study what you love and keep asking questions about the fascinating environment around you. Our research into chemical compounds and microbiology inspired us to conduct an experiment that investigated the efficacy of homemade cleaning solutions compared to their commercial counterparts. |
